2008 Route Maps
The 2008 TX TOUGH Bike Stage has four course options from which to choose, enabling people of all skill levels and abilities to participate. The shortest distance is the 10K or 6.2-mile route. It offers participants an opportunity to view, on two wheels, some of the most beautiful parts of Downtown Dallas. The remaining routes incrementally increase in distance and difficulty and include a 40K, 56-mile, and 112-mile option. ALL the courses share the same START and FINISH point and several miles of road at the beginning and end of each route. Designing the course so they share roads reduces complexity, reduces the risk of participants getting lost or off course, and speeds response time in case of emergencies. Additionally, it allows a participant to "short-cut" a course in the event there is an emergency or a participant needs to ride a shorter distance than they originally planned.
The 112-mile course is the 56-mile route looped. Looping a course is not uncommon and frequently used in Olympic and/or World Championship Cycling and Triathlon events. It reduces the complexity of managing routes and increases safety to riders because the staff required to secure the longer distance is already in place as part of managing the shared course. The other reason for looping the 112-mile route is to give the riders the opportunity to come through Victory Park twice. We will be utilizing the video technology available in Victory Park to celebrate the success of ALL participants as they cross the finish line. When the 112-mile riders enter the Victory Park area, they will be cheered on by friends, family and other participants as they pass through the FINISH area and begin thier second lap.
