Where your money goes?
Each team may select a specific program within Children's Medical Center to benefit directly from its fund-raising effort. Children's has more than fifty specialty programs from which to choose, in a range of areas that provide valuable, life changing care for kids. Below is a list of some of the key programs needing your support. Cancer and Blood Disorders
- More than 200 children with cancer are newly
diagnosed and treated at Children's each year, with more than 500 receiving
therapy at any given time. The oncology program is recognized nationally
for developing less expensive and more outpatient-based treatment programs
for children with cancer, and as a result of the Center for Cancer and Blood
Disorder's staff experience and expertise, few children in North Texas
with cancer have to travel elsewhere for diagnosis and treatment.
Heart Care Center
- With more than twenty pediatric cardiologists and three
cardiothoracic surgeons on the medical staff, the full spectrum of pediatric
cardiovascular care is available, encompassing all forms of heart disease in
the fetus, infants, children and adolescents. The Center includes a
dedicated pediatric cardiac intensive care unit with 17 beds, and a cardiology
ward with 22 telemetry beds.
Allergy, Immunology and Asthma
- Consultation in the evaluation, diagnosis,
and management of the following: asthma, allergic and non-allergic rhinitis,
food allergy, drug allergy, stinging insect allergy, atopic dermatitis,
anaphylaxis, angioedema, chronic urticaria, chronic sinusitis, primary
immunodeficiencies.
Child Abuse and Neglect (REACH)
- The REACH (Referral and Evaluation of
Abused Children) Clinic provides: outpatient medical evaluations for child
abuse diagnosis, prevention and treatment, Inpatient and ERC consultations
in cases of suspected child abuse, services for child abuse diagnosis,
prevention and treatment, networking with a variety of state and local
agencies, social services support, medical follow-up.
Child Life/Child Development
- This program develops and provides age
appropriate information to assist children in understanding and coping with
the hospital environment. Specific services include: diagnosis-specific
education, emotional preparation and support for invasive procedures and
surgery, pre-surgical and pre-hospital preparation and tours, playroom
activities and special events, emotional and developmental support for
siblings, educational programs for staff about child development and
children's response to and coping with hospitalization and health-care
experiences, and music therapy for hospitalized patients.
Craniofacial Surgery
- Surgeons and programming specializing in the treatment
of children born with cleft lip, cleft palate and/or other facial abnormalities.
Endocrinology
- The Children's Endocrinology Center offers
state-of-the-art diagnoses, treatment and management of endocrine disorders
including thyroid, growth, diabetes and other endocrine-based conditions.
Down Syndrome
- Comprehensive care for children with Down Syndrome and their families including: medical management, genetic counseling, speech and oral motor developmental evaluation and recommendations, physical development evaluation and recommendations, psychosocial support, screening and referral for behavioral or psychiatric problems, referral to community agencies for educational intervention or therapies.
Eating Disorders
- Comprehensive care for children with eating disorders and
their families including: individualized plan of care within a structured
therapeutic environment, medication management, nutritional counseling,
therapeutic school, structured environment with behavioral program, art
therapy, recreation therapy, music therapy, psychotherapy, including
individual, family, and group.
Gastroenterology
- Comprehensive services for the diagnosis and treatment of
infants, children and adolescents with gastroenterological disorders.
Infectious Diseases
- Consultation for children who have an infectious disease management issues.
Nephrology
- Medical support and treatment for children with problems
related to the kidneys, including: hypertension, renal failure, nephrotic
syndrome, acid-base and electrolyte disorders, hematuria, proteinuria,
glomerular disorders, urinary tract infections.
Neurology
- Comprehensive evaluation and treatment for infants, children and
adolescents with a range of neurological diagnoses. The pediatric neurology
physicians on the medical staff diagnose and treat children with a wide
variety of neurological problems, including epilepsy, cerebrovascular
disease, neonatal neurological disorders, autism and neuromuscular disease.
Ophthalmology
- Provides care and evaluation for all types of eye conditions
and diseases, including, but not limited to strabismus, amblyopia, and ocular
congenital anomalies, pediatric ocular trauma, ocular infections, and
genetic ocular disease.
Pastoral Care / Chaplaincy
- The pastoral care program provides ministry to
inpatients, outpatients, emergency center patients, families and hospital
staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Pulmonology
- Comprehensive consultative services for diagnosis and
treatment of infants, children and adolescents with a variety of respiratory
conditions, including, but not limited to, neuromuscular diseases,
restrictive lung diseases, near-fatal asthma, pulmonary hypertension and
sleep-disordered breathing.
Rheumatology
- Outpatient clinic for children new to rheumatology and inpatient consultative services for patients with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases of childhood, as well as diseases thought to be collagen-vascular in origin. Diseases most commonly treated include juvenile arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, vasculitis and scleroderma.
Urology
- The Center for Pediatric Urology provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care to infants, children and adolescents with congenital and acquired genitourinary disorders.
